Anne Hatfield Weir: Crafting Dreams and Transforming Spaces into Homes
Most Inspiring Women in Real Estate to Watch in 2024
Meet Anne Hatfield Weir, a master of the art of real estate. With a keen eye for detail, a heart full of warmth, and a mind brimming with innovative strategies, Anne brings a fresh perspective to the world of property sales. As a realtor with Washington Fine Properties, she doesn’t just sell houses; she helps her buyers realize their dreams and transform spaces into homes. With Anne by your side, your real estate journey is not just a transaction; it’s a seamless blend of expertise, and excellence.
Journey of Discovery
Anne had a very traditional upbringing in North Carolina, growing up in a big family with lots of pets. Real estate wasn’t something she had ever considered until her father, an attorney, became deeply involved in the field and shared his projects with her. While Anne was attending business school at Wake Forest University, her father published a book titled “The Weekend Real Estate Investor,” sparking Anne’s interest in the field.
After completing her business degree, Anne moved to Washington, DC, where she embarked on a career in economic development with organizations such as the World Bank, the OAS, and various private consulting firms. Despite enjoying the travel and diverse interactions these jobs offered the arrival of her children and her husband’s busy work schedule prompted Anne to transition to being a stay-at-home mom.
After a few years, however, Anne began contemplating a career in real estate, largely because it didn’t require travel. Initially underestimating the complexity of the profession, she soon realized its challenges, but found success due to her ability to connect with people from all walks of life and her background in finance, which proved invaluable in assisting clients with securing loans during a time of excessive interest rates.
Anne’s sister, Heidi Hatfield, joined her as a partner after leaving her role as VP of Marketing for the Wine Society of America in New York. With Heidi’s marketing experience and Anne’s financial and real estate expertise, the duo achieved great success and finally were able to persuade their other sister, Andrea, to obtain her real estate license to support their growing business. Initially content to work behind the scenes, Andrea Hatfield eventually joined them full-time, bringing her talents as a writer and as a licensed clinical therapist to provide essential support to clients during stressful transactions.

With a remarkable track record of sales exceeding two billion dollars, the HWG Team consistently ranks among the top real estate teams in Washington, D.C. They have also been recognized by Real Trends as one of the best teams in America, a testament to their exceptional performance and dedication to excellence.
Washington Fine Properties, the brokerage firm with which Anne is affiliated, is renowned worldwide as the premier brokerage firm in the National Capital Region. With the support of such a prestigious brokerage, Anne and her team continue to set a standard for excellence in the real estate industry.
Adding Talent to Drive Success in Real Estate
According to Anne, Tammy Gale initially joined the Hatfield Weir team as an administrative assistant but soon demonstrated remarkable sales skills, prompting her transition to the sales team. To fill the administrative role, their team hired Morgan Patterson, who hailed from a real estate family and had prior experience working for a real estate law firm. Morgan’s blend of creativity, knowledge, and efficiency proved invaluable. Recently, they welcomed Craig Davitian, a lawyer and realtor with whom they had collaborated previously and find him to be a strong addition to their team.
From Analog to Digital in Real Estate
Anne finds it fascinating to reflect on the early days of her real estate career, noting how primitive the tools and technology were compared to those in use today. The MLS existed but few people had personal computers. Creating property brochures involved typing up information and manually attaching photos. The introduction of fax machines revolutionized long-distance contract negotiations, and the excitement of obtaining car phones was palpable.
When use of the internet began to permeate the industry, there was a concern among some that it might render realtors obsolete. However, Anne and her team discovered that the internet became their greatest ally and an invaluable tool rather than a threat, aiding them in their work and enhancing their efficiency. The impact of photography and staging is another drastic difference in the evolution of property marketing.
Client-Centric Success
While the team is enthusiastic about any new technology, Anne believes that their team’s success stems largely from their client-centric approach. They prioritize building strong relationships based on trust and a genuine desire to secure the best outcomes for their clients. Providing value and imparting knowledge empowers their clients to make informed decisions with confidence. Anne emphasizes that she and her team see themselves more as a service-oriented business rather than a sales-driven one.
To maintain this focus on service, they recognize the importance of staying informed about both macro- and micro-economic factors impacting the real estate industry. This commitment ensures they can offer comprehensive guidance and support to their clients throughout their real estate journeys.
Prioritizing Client Relationships
While Anne’s team prioritizes not only beautiful marketing materials and embracing new technological advances, they also realize the timeless value of building strong client relationships. They understand that the process of buying or selling a home can be incredibly stressful and believe in being present for their clients every step of the way.
While some agents may choose to outsource showings and limit their own involvement to contract writing, Anne and her team believe in maintaining personal connections with their clients. They find fulfillment in helping their clients find the perfect home or achieve their real estate goals, and this commitment has resulted in about 85% of their business coming from repeat clients or referrals. For them, the joy of making a meaningful difference in their clients’ lives is priceless.
Fostering Positive Relationships
Anne and her team also value building positive relationships with their colleagues within the real estate industry. They make a point of getting to know the people on the other side of transactions and strive to maintain friendly and respectful interactions. It’s important to them that their colleagues feel comfortable working with them and trust that they will treat all parties with fairness and honesty. This approach not only fosters goodwill within the industry but also contributes to smoother and more successful transactions for everyone involved.
Anne and her team believe in community involvement. Anne works with local historic preservation groups, music and theatre groups and community organizations that help the homeless and unemployed. In her spare time, she and her husband enjoy traveling, hiking with their dogs, going to the beach and reading.
